Once upon a time in the land of Fnordia, there lived an ek-sen-trik
old man who never smiled and whom nobody liked. One day a
group of five boys decided to visit the old man and to generally
mistreat him. They found him sitting on his front porch.

The first boy, whose name was Ferd, said "hey, old man!", but the
old fellow said nothing. So the boy kicked him. He still said nothing.

The second boy, whose name was Nad, said "hey, old man!" and
hit him across the face. Again, the old man did not speak.

The third boy, whose name was Orn, said "hey, old man, how
come you never smile or say anything?" and bit him. But he did not
cry out.

Then the other two boys, whose names were Rasil and Dasil, said
"let's really beat him up," and they did. He still made not a sound.

Then one of the boys said "what a stupid old man; let's leave," and
they turned their backs to him and started to go. After they had
their backs turned, the old man quietly picked himself up, dusted
himself off, pulled out an AK-47, and shot them all in the back.

As the boys lay dying, one of them gasped his last breath and asked
"old man, why did you do that?"

The aged' one paused for a bit. Then he took a deep breath. Then
he sighed. He was about to answer them, but he saw that the last of
the five boys was lying still, for they were all dead.

"Gee," the ancient one said, shaking his head, "I guess you'll never
know."

Then he smiled.
