Discordian Division of the Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild Snooze Letter January 2012 The Pineapple Protest Issue discordia.loveshade.org This being the Pineapple Protest Issue, in which we celebrate a special anniversary, let you know some of the people who've written blurbs for Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht, tell you about a threat to Freedom of Speech online, and announce this year's winners of the Order of the Pineapple. ORDER OF THE PINEAPPLE WINNERS We had some very worthy nominees this year, but for the award’s 30th anniversary the outstanding winners are R. Crumb and Dr. Demento. Dr. Demento: A radio announcer who specializes in novelty songs, comedy, and strange or unusual recordings dating from the early days of phonograph records to the present. The doctor has been spinning the wax for decades, has a master’s degree in folklore and ethnomusicology, and brought older comic musical artists such as Spike Jones, Benny Bell, Yogi Yorgesson, and Tom Lehrer to new generations. His show was the one that introduced the world to “Weird Al” Yankovich. Visit www.drdemento.com R. Crumb (Robert Crumb). The creator of Mr. Natural, Fritz the Cat, Devil Girl, and Keep on Truckin’. One of the most prominent of the underground artists, his work is said to have laid the foundation for the underground going mainstream in such animated programs as Beavis and Butthead, The Simpsons, and South Park. While working well outside the mainstream, he also illustrated a graphic novel version of the Book of Genesis, several album covers, and has had his work featured in museums. Visit www.rcrumb.com While anyone has the right to turn down the award, so far no one has. Remember, it is absolutely essential for members to eat something containing or resembling pineapple on Pat Pineapple Day, January 18–unless of course they don’t feel like it. See a complete list of members and learn more at The Order of the Pineapple, which celebrates its 30th anniversary on 18 January 2012, at op.loveshade.org. WE HAVE FOREPLAY AND BLURBS Most books have a foreword, but not ours--we have a foreplay. We've also gotten blurbs for Ek-sen-trik- kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht from several people, some of whom you almost certainly know. S. John Ross aka Pope Leo (Cumberland Games & Diversions, Warehouse 23, Novus Ordo Discordia: The Gospel of Pesher the Gardener) supplied us with what we found one of the best forewords we've ever seen. And our blurb writers include R. Crumb, Sondra London aka The Erisian Elestria, Alan Moore, Rev. Ivan Stang, Reverend Jason "Pee Kitty" Levine, Adam Gorightly, and more. We'll share samples of some of the things they had to say in a latter Snooze Letter. While a date has not yet been announced, Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht will likely be published sometime in 2012, maybe in spring. STOP FREEDOM OF SPEECH: SUPPORT SOPA AND PIPA "In the past, if the government wanted to shut down freedom of speech, they had to work diligently to find the press that was printing what they didn't like, and shut it down. "But in the modern era, if the government wants to shut it down, all they have to do is tell IP providers, "don't let anybody in our nation connect to these websites." That's what's happened in China, and now it's what SOPA and PIPA intend to do in America....If you live outside of the United States but post or visit any internet site in America, or you access any part of the internet from America, SOPA and PIPA could affect you too." Sites for The Loveshade Family, Alden Loveshade, Lorien Loveshade, Discordian Division of the Ek- sen-triks CluborGuild, and MileySpears.com all joined in the strike on January 18.
