| Discordian Division of the Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild Snooze Letter July/August 2007 The "Good News, Bad News" Double Issue discordia.loveshade.org This being the "Good News, Bad News" Double Issue, in which we name a new Saint, announce some major changes to our site, brag about our ranking, and rant about cool stuff. WE'RE IN THE TOP ONE PERCENT! As listed on quantcast.com on 1 August 2007 (numbers compiled in June 2007), our main site, www.loveshade.org, is ranked 120,615 out of 20,260,276 websites on the Internet. That's based on unique visits, meaning that we are in the top 1 percent of most visited websites. Good news, yes? Especially for a non-commercial site that's well off the beaten track. Please excuse us while we pat ourselves on the back. OUR SITE IS CH-CH-CH-CHANGING The bad news is we will soon be temporarily removing much of the cool stuff of the in-progress Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht book from our site. This is because we're currently compiling a list of possible publishers for the book, and will be sending out portions of it to them soon. As most publishers frown on publishing something people can find online for free, this is unfortunately necessary. So look now before it's gone! The good news is we'll be adding more cool Xtra Stuff. We've gotten several great submissions for our site over the past few months, and should finally be able to add many of these most excellent bits to the site. THE END OF THE FIRST DRAFT--WE NEED ART! In more good news/bad news, the bad news is, we are no longer taking long or even short writing submissions or suggestions for Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht. But the good news is that's because the writing for the book is completed! It is still being edited and revised, but the book is otherwise done, other than collecting some more art. We've gotten some great contributions, but still need more, so send us some art! While much of our art has been created by professional cartoonists, painters and photographers, we also have art contributed by amateurs. We can't promise to use everything, but your chances of getting something submitted are much better if you check out our site at http://discordia.loveshade.org/xtra/nowsubmit.html for Stuff We Need Right Now. INTERVIEW APPEARING SOON After some temporal physics tweaking, interdimensional travel warping, and a little imagination, freelance writer Adam Newton finally got most of the cast of Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht (ED) together for an interview. This took place (or will have taken place, depending upon time line) in a hot tub in a tree house on Planet Eta Mu Pi. Unfortunately, there was no way we could fit everyone who contributed something to the book together in a small hot tub, but we did manage to cram almost everyone in who made three or more contributions. These included Untroubled Teen, Princess Unicornia, Fairy Princess Yoshikyoko, Perlie the Pony Girl, TawTew the Naturally Perfumed, Sister Hooter, Captain 'Sesame Seed' Rogers, Sister Lorraine of Fairy Tree, Nixie Nurita, Dr. Sinister Craven, and of course Reverend Loveshade. That's a lot of people to squeeze into a hot tub built for four. And there's also a Special Guest Appearance! Look for the interview appearing on our site in the next month or two, and possibly as an afterplay in our book. (Note to skeptics: the interview is real, although the description of the location may be a bit tweaked. Note to those who claim that modern Discordians are all middle-aged or older men: the majority of the above are female, and several are under legal age for the nation of Monaco. So there!) COPY EDITOR We still need a copy editor! This is someone who can look over our stuff for the ED, point out sppeling and errors grammar of, and suggest improvements in wording that's written so really it's awkward to read when you read it. We prefer someone with a degree in English/Communications, or at least someone with editing experience. But we're also looking for anyone with basic experience to help out. Like everyone on this project, you likely won't get paid, but have bragging rights! If you're interested, send us your resume to the email listing below. MULTIVERSAL UNDERWEAR DAY In celebration of this holyday, on August 10, 2007 several of our members and friends went in public in their underwear! Some of them wore nothing but underwear, and some wore underpants on their heads, qualifying them for membership in the Lesser DisOrder of Underwear Heads. Those who participated included Anus Familiarus, Fairy Princess Yoshikyoko, Nixie Nurita, Nurse Eggscream, Princess Unicornia, Perlie the Pony Girl, Rev. Bootie (who also showed es underwear on August 7), Reverend Loveshade, and Russell Hamburgermeister. Some even removed their underwear outside and went naked. Good for them! WHEN WERE YOU HATCHED? Happy Birthday Suit Day to Shamlicht Kids Club member Joe the Monkey! (The official merger of Sham Girls (Shamlicht Girls) and Sham Boys (Shamlicht Boys) won't happen until 30 September 2007 or thereabouts, but why worry about a little temporal mixup?). While we generally don't name saints who aren't either fictional or dead, we're making an exception for Kim Phuc. You may not recognize Phuc's name, but have probably seen the 1972 photo of the 9-year-old girl screaming and running naked down the street in the midst of other children and some soldiers after she was badly burned by napalm. The Nick Ut photo is one of the most famous of the Vietnam War. Kim survived, but feared no one would marry a girl with burn scars covering back and arms. But Kim got married, gave birth to a son, and became a goodwill ambassador for UNESCO. Phuc may not be a typical choice for a Discordian saint, but Kim ran, stripped of clothing, normalcy and dignity, to overcome the chaos of a war created by the attempted imposition of artificial order which instead escalated chaos. And The Agents of Greyface's small-town cop who caused us so much trouble classified photos like Phuc's as felonious material. So congrats to you, St. Kim! DISCORDIAN ARTIFACTS We've gotten several submissions for Ek-sen-trik Discordian artifacts either emailed to us or posted under our announcement at www.23ae.com--thanks! Some of them are clever, some are just plain weird, but they're all creative! While the writing for our book is done (other than ongoing edits and revisions), we plan to post many of these on our site in the next month or too. And we're still looking for more! DID SAINT THE MARY GET MARRIED AGAIN? There's a rumor that Saint The Mary, who was already married when e married three grooms (apparently a pseudonym, danacasso and razmear) in November 2001, got married again, only this time legally. Is this true?
