Below is a 2012 report on the activities of a Shamlicht Kids Club nest. A nest is its
smallest group, usually with five to 10 members. Some of these reports were made
before the end of the year, so may be incomplete.
Bluebeard's Nest
Do we have kids to beat the band? Yes sir!
What is Bluebeard's Nest? We're a part of Shamlicht Kids Club which I, Captain
"Sesame Seed" Rogers co-founded in 2006 with Sister Hooter as Shamlicht Boys
and Shamlicht Girls respectively. Six years ago, but time marches on! Our nest
sits quite nicely in the Tree of the Atlantic in Peddocks Grove in Forest USA.
We held our traditional Found Instrument Concert in the Park where everyone can
play anything that's not your usual instrument. There were pots and pans, a
wooden box used as a drum, a rattle made of a can with rocks, and a ceramic cat?
It wasn't your usual concert!
Our members this year are Hot Dog Joey Jr., Fingers Ray, Banana Bob, Ducky
Johnson, and Bongo Congo. I'm the nestler or band leader and SKC alumus
Sparky Newberg is my very capable assistant.
We helped out with Hurricane Sandy which caused power outages, flooding, and
even stopped the trains for a while. Trick or Treating became check on your
neighbors!
We were very happy to see that Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht
was finally published! Sparky Newberg co-wrote the lyrics for the SKC theme
song, "Shamlicht Kids Club Song." while I, the Captain, wrote the music for the
song which is featured in the book. I also wrote about the club for the book with
Sister Hooter.
Our members earned several merit badges, and are working on more!
