Discordian Division of the Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild Snooze Letter April 2007 The "Yes We're a True Religion, Sort of" Issue discordia.loveshade.org This being the "Yes We're a True Religion, Sort of" Issue, in which one of our holidays is recognized by a Christian church, Wikipedia accepts us/doesn't accept us/accepts us/changes again, we look for more True Relics, we sneak our religion into a penal institution, and the secret identify of a major Discordian oracle is exposed. SECRET IDENTITY DISCOVERED Reverend Loveshade ripped off and wrote the story of "Five Blind Men and an Elephant" in 1994. The tale features a blind Discordian oracle, but no one knew who the wise woman was--until now. Sister Hooter and the sister's assistant Pope Hilde, both of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception School for Unwed Mothers, have made a major Discordian discovery. They found not only the oracle's name, but details! It was none other than Eristotle, a prophet-philosopher born on 13 September 1752. Researches might note that it was on 13 September 2006 that a very special dwarf planet was named after Eris. Coincidence? We think not! We'll bring you more details about Eristotle as we can. Feel free to send us any facts, rumors, conjectures about Eristotle that you've discovered to one of our email addresses listed below. DISCORDIANS FOR JESUS/LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR DAY The pastor at Discordians for Jesus co-founder Nixie Nurita's Christian church actually called Nurita to the front of the church and made an announcement. The pastor said that Sunday, 25 May 2007 was Love Your Neighbor Day! It's actually Discordians for Jesus/Love Your Neighbor Day, but we don't think the pastor mentioned the first part. Also credited in that service were DoJ and holyday co-founder Sister Lorraine of Fairy Tree. If a couple of preteen girls can get something carried that far, think what you could do! WIKIPEDIA WARS: DISCORDIAN WORKS STILL CONTROVERSIAL The third official effort to delete the article Discordian Works from the Wikipedia failed, as did the request to get help from the Arbitration Committee. It's still being hacked up, put back together, hacked up, etc., all in the midst of immature infighting, mature infighting, and childish insults. You can see what's currently there--or not there--at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discordian_Works. Some people have acted maturely and helpfully in this conflict, and some have acted like spoiled brats. DISCORDIAN EVANGELISM: DONATE BOOKS! An Anonymous Lifeform may have started something. E donated some books to a jail so the prisoners would have something to read during their state-supported holyday. But snuck in amidst the usual paperbacks featuring mysteries, short stories and celebrity gossip was this: the yellow cover Loompanics edition of Principia Discordia! And the guard who examined the books accepted it! Previously, a copy of Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson's The Illuminatus! Trilogy was successfully donated to another jail! So do your part. Get Discordian works into the hands of prisoners, students, even Christian Fundamentalists! Suggestion: check with your local institution on what you can donate before you go out and buy some books. Some jails, for example, accept paperbacks and not hardbacks, and many reject works that are obviously sexually-oriented (note the word obviously). So check and donate, and spread the word! APRIL THROUGH JUNE HOLYDAYS (See a list of all our holydays with a link to full descriptions at discordia.loveshade.org/ek-sen-trik-kuh/holydays) April 1 (18 Discord): April Fool's Day (O) April 2 (19 Discord): St John the Blasphemist's Day (ED) April 6 (23 Discord): Jake Day (O) May 3 (50 Discord): Discoflux (PD) May 23 (70 Discord): Jake Day Jr. (DJ)/Day of the Elppin (MH) NEW! June 21 (26 Confusion): Imaginary Friend/Captain Tuttle Day (ED)/(MH) DECISION ON PROPOSED STUFF FOR THE BOOK The votes are in, and they're favorable for I am a Jelly Doughnut, which reviews that famous quote by U. S. President John F. Kennedy; Proposed Saints (thanks to suggestions, we've added Robert Anton Wilson to the approved list of saints); and Rites of Life. Congrats! DO YOU HAVE A DISCORDIAN ARTIFACT? We still have room for two or three more relics to be listed in our book. Descriptions should describe the relic and the relic's guardian, and must be VERY short--these will all go into a little box on one page. Most relics refer in some way or another to something in our book, but they don't have to. Some examples are below. Have fun digging out that old relic, and tell us about it! (And we might even post a longer description on our site, so send us that too!) PROPOSED STUFF FOR THE BOOK As we mentioned in the last Snooze Letter, from now on we're only sending proposed material for review to those who specifically request seeing it. We have a lot of decisions to make as we move into the final days, so there's a lot to go over in a short amount of time. If you'd like to receive proposals (for the book, not marriage), send us a request to our email address listed below. * * * * * If you or someone you know wants to begin getting our absolutely free Snooze Letter and other cool emailings (we usually send about one or maybe two emails a month), send an email to xxxxx@xxxxx.xxx (for the current email, see our homepage) with the subject Add Me. If you want us to take your name off of our emailing list (which means you will remain unilluminated), send an email to the same address with the subject Unsubscribe. Send your comments on our Snooze Letter or proposals or opinions on submitted pieces or a request to review future submissions or whatever to the same address, but put something Discordian (ED, ECG, Eris, etc.) in your heading so we'll know it's not spam. (We get a lot of spam, and don't want to unknowingly delete something from a Discordian). If you want to make a submission for our site (or the book, which only needs art submissions), email it to xxxxx@xxxxx.xxx (for the current email, see our homepage). Please see submission details on our site before you submit. Thank you and have a day. |
