Discordian Division of the Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild Snooze Letter November/December 2007 The "This is The End--We've Only Just Begun" Double Issue discordia.loveshade.org This being the "This is The End--We've Only Just Begun" Double Issue, in which we say goodbye to a friend, recognize some new saints, talk about our book publisher quest, announce some great news about our legal mess, and ask for your support. OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW Yes, much of what was in the Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht section of our site ain't there no more. But those of you who read our last Snooze Letter will know this is because we've begun submitting our book for publication! We've already been told by one publisher that they aren't interested, which is good--it's good because we got a quick response, and can move on to another! There are relatively few publishers who would be interested in such an off-the-wall work, so we'll be submitting to relatively few. But don't panic! We'll get it published one way or another! OLD NEWS IS GOOD NEWS In our last Snooze Letter, we recognized the birthday of a member of Purple Ferret's Nest, which is a part of Napping Birch Tree which in turn is a part of Shamlicht Kids Club. But we missed a couple! Happy Belated Nativity Day to PFN founding-leader Minima and to founding member Harry Monkey. Five fine fanny slaps to you both! Look for more about Purple Ferret's Nest to appear on discordia.loveshade.org/skc soon. If you have a birthday, anniversary, holyday celebration, convention, umbilical hernia, or other event you'd like us to mention in a Snooze Letter, send us an email to the address below. (Well, you over there didn't, but you over other there did.) Officially Hereby Sainted Forever Until We Change Our Mind are Julia and Winston Smith, free-lover and freedom-loving editor in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four; Pesher the Gardener of Novus Ordo Discordia; Monty Python of Great Britain, who we think was the star aerialist in Monty Python's Flying Circus; the disposed Roman Catholic nun Elzafinagle of Ireland; the adult-scaring, kid-loving Harbol of Saint Chao tse-Tung's work A Fnordian Bestiary; Josephine Baker, banana dancer and civil rights activist of America and France; and that wacky Ek-sen-trik Discordian nominee who got the most votes of all, Jesus of Nazareth. (Don't confuse this Jesus with that guy some radical Fundamentalists try to cram down our collective throats--we're talking about the creatively innovative, organized religion-challenging, trouble-making Jesus who's described in the book those fundamentalists refuse to read with an open mind, The Bible.) Technically, the Log Lady prophet of Twin Peaks fame got enough yays to be selected, but we got a proposed variation: instead of naming the Log Lady, who received es prophecies from a log, why not name the log? We don't know of anyone who recognized a log as an Ek-sen-trik Discordian saint, and we don't want to be accused of log discrimination? (What? You won't accept em just because es made of wood and e's dead?) And we got three votes for the wise-cracking, chaos-making Bugs Bunny as a saint even though Bugs wasn't on the list! So let us know what you think about Log Lady, Log Lady's Log, and Bugs Bunny by sending us an email to our address below by 15 Jan. 2008. CASE DISMISSED! If you've been getting our Snooze Letters for a while, you've probably seen bits about our legal problems with The Agents of Greyface ("TAG" being all those who impose unnecessary order). We were investigated on a number of charges, had our writings, photos, computer disks, books, and other materials seized; some of us were arrested; some of us went into hiding, etc. Well, another chapter has, mercifully, finally come to an end--the last major charge has been dismissed! With the exception of a possession of marijuana conviction, everything has been dropped, thanks to the help of some attorneys (some helpful, some not-so-helpful), a paralegal, some friendly-if-working-unofficially members of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a couple government investigators, and, ironically, the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) itself. There is still one small agency that has refused to tell us what they did and what they took from us, but we're filing a Freedom of Information Act to find out. This almost brings a nightmare that's lasted over 5.5 years to an end. This almost brings a nightmare that's lasted over 5.5 years to an end. For more information, see Adam Newton's Interview at http://discordia.loveshade.org/xtra/interviewan. GOODBYE EMILY SANDER/ZOEY ZANE Tragically, Kansas girl Emily Sander, 18, died 24 November 2007. Emily was a friend of our own Perlie the Pony Girl, and apparently died by violence. Emily was also known as Zoey Zane, an Internet model who sometimes posed nude (we have no problem with that). Perlie said Emily was very sweet, was happiest when helping others be happy, and loved cooking and dancing when not studying business at college or working as a secretary. You can read about Emily's case on our blog at www.loveshade.org/blog, or see more about em on our tribute page at discordia.loveshade.org/xtra/emily.html. Perlie's statement and our tribute page have been reported in major news media in the United States and Canada, which we appreciate. The tribute page also has information on how to contact police if you have any information on Emily's case. For more info, go to www.zoeyzane.com. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT We're loath to ask for money, but we'll swallow our collective prides and do it anyway. We still have thousands of dollars in legal fees to pay, and our website costs us money to keep up and improve. We're loath to ask for money, but we'll swallow our collective prides and do it anyway.
